NMEA 2000

Wireless Second Station RAM4W capability

Wirelessly control all radio functions of the GX6000 with the interface of the RAM4W wireless Remote Access Microphone. Using the SCU-30 Wireless Access Point plugged into the back of the radio, you have the capability of syncing up to 4 RAM4W units. With an operating range of up to 65 feet, the RAM4W allows you to control all Radio functions including DSC Calling, Position Polling, Group Calling and more, or use the RAM4W to intercom between the main station or between other wireless RAM4W units.

Built In AIS Receiver

The Quantum GX6000 displays AIS target information (MMSI, Call Sign, Ship Name, BRG, DST, SOG and COG) on the large front panel display. Having this information allows you to contact an AIS Ship directly using DSC, shows your vessels position in relation to AIS targets and alerts you when an AIS ship may be approaching too close to your location via the Closest Point of Approach (CPA) Alarm.

Integrated 25W PA/Loud Hailer

The Quantum GX6000 includes a 25W Loud Hailer with Fog signals; Bells and Whistles with listen back. For added benefit, the last selected VHF channel can be heard when in the PA or Fog modes and the AIS Display may be accessed and used. In addition, the Quantum GX6000 allows you to start a fog horn and then view the AIS page simultaneously.

Integrated Voice Scrambler

Loaded with an internal 32 code voice scrambler for private communications. the 32 code scrambler is compatible with all Standard Horizon 4 code scramblers already in use. Simply select a channel to be scrambled then select a common code between the transmitting and receiving radios and your communications are secure.

FAQ

How do I remove the current MMSI number from my newer radio?

For radios produced in 2018 and newer we can do this remotely! We would need you to email marinetech@yaesu.com with the following information: Name, Model Number, Serial Number, Current MMSI, and the Request Code. The radios Request Code you will find the radios Reset Menu under the option MMSI. All are needed to provide you a reset password via email. Typically, we can provide you a reset password in about 2 business days.

How can I check to see if my radio is receiving correctly? I don’t seem to hear anyone talking.

Try switching the radio over to the Weather channel mode. When you are in this mode the USA will disappear and be replaced by WX on your screen. Make sure you check all 10 weather channels to find your local one. If you receive weather loud and clear, this is a good sign your radios receiver is working as the radio only has one receiver. You may be out of range of other boaters, or you may be listening on channels no one is actively using at the time.

Why does my radio not talk to the NMEA 2000 network?

Go to the radios NMEA 2000 Setup menu. We normally suggest changing the Device Number on the radio to something that does not match up to other equipment on the network. If you have a GPS antenna with a device number of 002, then make sure the radio is not set to 002. Try a radio device number such as 009. We find having different numbers reduces confusion on the network. After changing the device number, you will go to the option called Select Device (NMEA 2000 Setup menu) and run a search for devices. Start by selecting your GPS chart plotter and tap the button under Set once. Go to the main screen and see if it’s working. A 2K icon will appear in addition to your position. If not, go back to the Select Device menu and select the next device on the list. Sometimes it’s the secondary devices that act as more consistent sources of NMEA 2000 data.

Why can others not hear me when I transmit?

There are several reasons this can happen which are not a fault of the radio. Make sure you test with another person who is aware you will test your radio with theirs. Check that both radios are on a common non-emergency channel such as channel 68. Speak clearly directly into the microphone hole opening with your mouth no more than 2 inches away. Try setting your radio to Hi transmit power.

I am transmitting in an area with lots of boats and no one responds to me. Why is this happening?

Although there are other boaters near you, 1) they must have their radio turned on, 2) they must be on the same channel, 3) be able and willing to respond to your call.

When I press the talk button (PTT) my radio’s display will shut off and restart. Why does this happen?

The radio will shut down to protect itself. This will happen when the radio is unable to get sufficient “energy” from the power source. - On a vehicle installation you want to check the voltage at the radios rear DC connector. It should be about 13.8 VDC. If this voltage at the radio drops below 11 VDC, the radio will shut down. - Consider reducing the DC cables from the radio as direct to the battery as possible. - Try to use a higher gauge (thicker) cable if the DC must travel long distances.

The radio is asking me to enter my MMSI number. Where do I get this number?

The MMSI numbers are a number you will need to register for through one of the registration agencies. For a U.S. registered MMSI number you can reach out to Boat US or United States Power Squadrons. For an MMSI number for international use you will have to register through the FCC. Boat US https://www.boatus.com/mmsi/ US Power Squadrons https://www.usps.org/ FCC https://www.fcc.gov/wireless/bureau-divisions/mobility-division/ship-radio-stations

Why do I get my radio to send DSC/DSE data to the NMEA 2000 network? This data is related to position reports and distress alerts.

Go to the radios GPS setup menu. Go into the NMEA 0183 IN/OUT submenu. Turn On the DSC/DSE output sentences.
